Reaction Paper on Management Principles free essay sample

The report that was presented by the reporter, Arlo Ramos was indeed very comprehensive and informative. I agreed on almost all points on the report especially on how external environment will greatly affect the trend of the business, how these external factors play a very important role in deciding the future of the business and its complexity representing both threats and challenges if not mitigated properly and even potential possibilities if handled the right way. Having said this in the report, I would like to shed more light to the emerging importance of political-legal environment as a make or break element in a competitive business firm. As stated in the report, one of the areas that is equally as significant if not more significant today is the political-legal factor affecting the business because it represents serious threats to its stability and development. In todays times for instance, terrorism has gained its serious political and hazardous standing in the international political arena. We will write a custom essay sample on Reaction Paper on Management Principles or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page The Uinted States along with its political counterparts had made serious efforts in battling terrorism and its adverse effects in the world as a whole, most especially in the economical way. In the history, there are a lot of terrorist attacks that had greatly affected so many big companies and countries directly and indirectly. The heart breaking September 11 attack of the US has greatly affect all of the businesses not only in the US but also around the globe. Therefore, to answer this arising and constant threat, there is a new market leader emerging to provide a worldwide book of War and Terrorism insurance cover, otherwise famous as Lloyds of London. This insurance cover will include the physical loss or damage to residential and commerical establishments, insurance cover for business interruption and terrorism third party liability and employers liability as well. This only goes to show that indeed the external environment has a say as to what and where business firms behave. As to the issue of terrorism, and the emergence of Lloyds of London as a terrorism insurance company, we can see the evolution of businesses behaviour in the light of the emerging threats that may hamper the development and progress of companies worldwide.

Hamlet Essays (2294 words) - Characters In Hamlet, Fiction

Hamlet In William Shakespeare's Hamlet, the protagonist exhibits a puzzling, duplicitous nature. Hamlet contradicts himself throughout the play. He endorses both the virtues of acting a role and that of being true to one's self. He further supports both of these conflicting endorsements with his actions. This ambiguity is demonstrated by his alleged madness, for he does behave madly, only to become perfectly calm and rational an instant later. These inconsistencies are related with the internal dilemmas he faces. He struggles with the issue of revenging his father's death-vowing to kill Claudius and then backing out, several times. Upon this point Hamlet stammers through the play. The reason for this teetering is directly related to his inability to form a solid opinion about role playing. This difficulty is not present, however, at the start of the play. In the first act, Hamlet appears to be very straightforward in his actions and inner state. When questioned by Gertrude about his melancholy appearance, Hamlet says, "Seems, madam? Nay it is. I know not 'seems.' (1.2.76). This is to say "I am what I appear to be." Later In Act I, Hamlet makes a clear statement about his state when he commits himself to revenge. In this statement the play makes an easy to follow shift. This shift consists of Hamlet giving up the role of a student and mourning son. Hamlet says, "I'll wipe away all trivial fond records, All saws of books, all forms, all pressures past, That youth and observation copied there, And thy commandment all alone shall live Within the book and volume of my brain" (1.5.99-103). Hamlet is declaring that he will be committed to nothing else but the revenge of his father's death. There is no confusion about Hamlet's character. He has said earlier that he is what he appears to be, and there is no reason to doubt it. In the next act, however, Hamlet's status and intentions suddenly, and with out demonstrated reason, become mired in confusion. When Hamlet appears again in act two, it seems that he has lost the conviction that was present earlier. He has yet to take up the part assigned to him by the ghost. He spends the act walking around, reading, talking with Polonius, Rosencrantz, Guildenstern, and the players. It is not until the very end of the act that he even mentions vengeance. If he had any of the conviction shown earlier he would have been working on his vengeance. So, instead of playing the part of vengeful son, or dropping the issue entirely, he hangs out in the middle, pretending to be mad. This is shown when he says to Rosencrantz and Guildenstern "I know not-lost all my mirth, forgone all custom of exercise" (2.2.298-299). Later he tells them that he is just feigning madness when he says, "I am but mad north-north-west, when the wind is southerly, I know a hawk from a handsaw"(2.2.380-381). Admitting so blatantly that he is only feigning madness would imply that he is comfortable with it. He also seems to be generally comfortable with acting This is evidenct when he says, "there is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so" (2.2.251-252). Hamlet is saying that behavior shapes reality. It is puzzling that, at this point, Hamlet is comfortable with acting, but not with the role that he said he would play earlier. If he is to play a role, why not the one that his father gave him? When the players come in a short wile later his attitude changes. Hamlet is prompted to vengeance, again, by the moving speech that is given by one of the players. About this speech he says, "Whatis Hecuba to him, or he to Hecuba, That he should weep for her? What would he do Had he motive and cue for passion That I have? "(2.2.561-564) In this praise of this players ability to act, Hamlet is saying that, if he were such an actor, he would have killed Claudius by now. This link between vengeance and acting that is present here is what Hamlet struggles with until very near the end. He is then moved to swear that he should kill Claudius when he says, " I should have fatted all the region

Case Study on FIlm Industry Essay Example

Case Study on FIlm Industry Essay Example Case Study on FIlm Industry Essay Case Study on FIlm Industry Essay Essay Topic: Batman Film is a large multi-billion dollar industry in the USA and worldwide overall. Compared to other industries it has a very unique characteristic. For example when it comes to the real estate, fashion, cars consumer cost will always reflect the cost of manufacturing. If Nissan spends less on manufacturing a car, it will charge less than what Rolls Royce would. This rule doesnt hold in the movie industry. When a person goes to a movie theater they have a wide variety of choices and the price for all the movies is mostly equal or has a very small range. So if its not the price, question tands what drives consumers to chose film A over the film B? With the sample data obtained from 100 motion pictures produced in 2005 it is possible to investigate which factors affect movie attendance. Total Gross Sales and Opening Weekend Gross Sales Correlation Coefficient . 964251784 Total Gross Sales and Number of Theaters Correlation Coefficient 0. 709858186 Total Gross Sales and Number of Weeks in top 60 Correlation Coefficient 0. 525394855 All three relations have a positive correlation. Strong relationship between Open Week and Total sales is further reinforced by an example with extreme outliers. In this research the outliers are defined as follows: QI-I . (lQR) is the level, below which a movie will be considered as a Low Performance outlier Q3+ 1. 5(lQR) is the level, above which a movie will be classified as a High Performance outlier. Number of Theaters Q3+ 1. 5(lQR) = 2626. 5 + 1. 5(2626. 5 45. 75) = 6497. 625 theaters No extreme outliers present in the data set. Opening Weekend Gross Sales and Total Sales are the same six blockbusters. These movies had more than $30. 985 million in the Opening Weekend and more than $ 117. 975 million of Total Gross Sales. Film Makers should be determined to achieve a High Opening Weekend Sales, since it reatly correlates to the overall success of the movie. Advertising, PR, Marketing not only do good Job at informing but also have a very big influence on the viewers tastes, thus they are good tools to use to push up the Opening Week Sales. Unfortunately the Hollywood Films with higher budgets can afford such publicity. Smaller independent filmmakers tend to have less viewers. So even when the budget of movie doesnt affect the consumers choice directly, it does so in an indirect way. Other variables shouldnt be overlooked as the Number of Theaters and Weeks in Chart have a positive impact on the Sales as well.

Unit 2 jounal Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Unit 2 jounal - Essay Example Chapter 3 In this chapter, the writer will pay homage to roots of slavery in America, where the hidden origins of slavery are discussed. The writer opines that slavery took place in a very tactical and system manner, making it very difficult for it to be detected easily even by the Blacks who were to become victims later. At this point, the Blacks had come to realize the depth of deception that had been placed on them through slavery. This is because unlike what they were made to believe in earlier times, such as what we are presented in chapter 3, they realized a serious lack of identity and personality. What was worse, their land was also taken and so they would have to reclaim them back. The writer was very accurate in describing the attempts that the Blacks made in reclaiming their land and other possessions that they felt the act of slavery had taken from unjustifiably been taken away from them. There was also much explanation on the justification for this call that the Blacks were making for their land. Chapter 13 As the Black community had started making efforts to reclaiming what belonged to them, the writer used the 13th chapter to reflect on the level of success that had been achieved by far. There is therefore the caption, â€Å"To the land of hope†, to depict that the Blacks were still convinced that their dream was appropriate. The Blacks continued to view the North as a land of hope, where they had to be to make the consolidation of their personality and identity complete. Later in the chapter, tribute is paid to some of the specific successes of the Black in various places in America, including what was described as â€Å"Black Pride in Harlem†. ... n† and in other parts of the world like England and Australia; such descriptions do not exist even though there are English and Australians with Black origins. After reading pages 350 to 359, an understanding of how the term ‘African American’ is better understood. This is because as at this time in history, the African community had come to realize that they were part of a common people known as the Americans. Meanwhile, the indigenous American would refuse to appreciate this and so will draw a line of distinction. It is not surprising the writer described the situation as â€Å"Bomb the Color Line†. Pages 396 – 402 It has often been argued that true fighters are able to tell when it is that they must stop fighting based on the fact that continuing to fight will bring about defeat. In such situations, part of the options includes the deferral of the battle. This was exactly what the writer tells us was done after the rising wind of social justice had somehow been tamed by the authorities involved. To say the dream had been deferred may sound a defeatist approach but in reality, that was not what the true case was. The minority group within the American fraternity was only seeking the best means by which if they exploded, their explosion would create the best of effects. 2. Kaleidoscope 107-118 In these pages, Equiano gives a biographic description of his journey through America and England and how his experience as a Black voyager gave him a vivid idea of how slavery was intense in those lands where he was travelling. A very positive aspect of this piece of writing is that it serves as an advocacy as to how modern issues of slavery should be approached. This is because instead on accepting the status of slavery, Equaino fought for his personal freedom without

Knowledge Management in Accenture 1992 - January 2001 - Essay Example In the case of Accenture, the various issues related to the daily organizational activity have to be analyzed in order to identify the facts that have caused delays to the firm’s development in the long term. For this reason, the identification of the firm’s key managerial practices is necessary in order to understand the structure and the ethics of the firm’s administration and design the appropriate plans for the development of organizational performance. Ethical Standards in Health Care Accounting Essay Example for Free

Ethical Standards in Health Care Accounting Essay As a health care manager, there is a need to understand the basic accounting principles and the need to be able to look at a financial report and understand what it says. Without these keys and a good ethical compass, there could be serious consequences and could result in loss of revenue, funds, termination, or even prison time. Now this may seem like an extreme statement, but without using the four elements of financial management and some good common sense, it might not be a far stretch of the truth. This paper will address the four elements of financial management and how good ethical standards and common sense ensure the best results. The Four Elements of Financial Management Financial management is simply put managing the financial aspect of a business. That involves cash coming in and cash going out. There are four elements of financial management which include planning, controlling, organizing and directing, and decision making. These four elements are important and need to be discussed separately. Planning â€Å"The purpose (of planning) is to identify objectives and then to identify the steps required for accomplishing these objectives† (Baker Baker, 2011, p. 5). Planning allows a manager to understand what his or her organization is about, or what it wants to achieve. This stage allows a manager to lay out the basic roadmap for what needs to happen. This does not meant that this is exactly what will happen, but still it provides a starting point. Creating a plan also requires thought into developing checks and balances. Who will be in charge of what, and who will be watching over whom. Plan to make it difficult for someone to make unethical decisions. According to Chuck Gallagher, a business ethics and fraud prevention expert; â€Å"Unethical behavior(s) that morphs into fraud will always have (need, opportunity, and rationalization) at their core† (Gallagher, 2009, p.41). Planning helps eliminate the opportunity for fraud. Controlling â€Å"The purpose of controlling is to ensure that plans are being followed† (Baker Baker, 2011, p. 5). At this stage managers use reports to see what areas are and what areas are not following their plans. The manager uses reports to ensure that financial targets are being met and that fraud is not occurring. Depending on the size of the organization, there may be many layers of controls put into place. It might be best to have someone that keeps everyone honest, at multiple levels. According to a quote in an article in Healthcare Financial Management, â€Å"’every organization ought to have a set of fairly detailed internal controls that protect its key assets. These controls should be reviewed by external and internal auditors or staff to make sure they are being adhered to’† (Sandrik, 1993, p. 4). Organizing and Directing Organizing is determining how best to use existing resources to achieve the goals of the company or organization. A few examples of this could be whether to have multiple nurses in the pediatric department today when they are needed in the ER, or whether to keep an ultrasound machine that is rarely used in a clinic, when it could best be served somewhere else. Directing is the day to day job of ensuring that resources are organized or designated in the most efficient manner. Decision Making Decision making is done continually throughout the other three elements or stages. Every time something is planned, controlled, or organized, it was because someone made a decision. Remember when making decisions to base them on the four principles of business ethics, â€Å"autonomy, which assumes every human being is capable of making his or her own choices; justice, which requires actions and practices to be fair and nondiscriminatory; beneficence, which promotes human welfare; and non-maleficence, which ensures protection of individuals from harm† (Sandrik, 1993, p. 5). Keeping transparency in a business is a great way to keep people honest as well. In July, 2010, The Healthcare Group Purchasing Industry Initiative (HGPII) received rave reviews for it â€Å"activating a formal process to ensure prompt and fair resolution of supplier complaints† and for â€Å"implementing an Independent Advisory Council to have outside observers make sure they are doing everything possible in terms of ethical standards† (Freeman, 2010, pp. 3). Conclusion Financial accounting might look like pages of numbers or gibberish; however they are the key to unlocking income potential, and success. Whether a manager is directly in charge of the reporting or in charge of something completely different, understanding these reports can help make an organization more efficient, able to offer more services, or even more profitable.

Benito Juarez Essay -- essays research papers

Benito Juarez was one of the most prominent and resourceful leaders in Mexico’s history. He raised the standard of living and championed the poor. However, it took Juarez half his life to become such a dominant political figure. He was born in San Paulo Guelatao in the Mexican State of Oaxaca. His parents were Indians, and he was raised a shepherd boy. His parents died when he was three, leaving Benito to his unmarried uncle. His uncle believed that the only way for him to better his place in society was to become a priest. So, on December 18, 1818, Benito at the age of twelve ran away to the city to learn. He entered the city penniless, and didn’t even speak the language. He soon got a job helping a bookbinder, and attended a parish school. He soon left the school because of discrimination, and social class divisions. He worked, and was then able to enroll in the Holy Cross Seminary. Benito did not want to become a priest, but the free education kept him there. Then, at 22 he entered the Institute of Sciences and Arts, and he studies Physics, and then law. In 1831 he finished his studies, and went to work in a law office. That same year, at age 25 he was elected to the position of city alderman. Dairy writing Essay

I am mentally and physically exhausted but I need to write this diary to record the experience of my ordeal. I must do it so that someday someone would know what my husband did to me, even if I disappear one day.  Yesterday was another dull and boring day. It was raining outside. I could hardly sleep recently as I was worry-beaten. I had been thinking about Sir Henry’s safety. Did he receive the letter I sent to him while we were in London? Would he understand the message and keep away from my husband? Should I give him an explicit warning when my husband and others were away? How should I tell him? All these questions struggled in my mind. By the time Selden, the escaped prisoner, was dead, I already suspected my husband planning another crime. I still remembered he came home in great surprise and disappointment that night. Why my husband became a deceiver?  Just then, my husband came in. I wanted to persuade him to stop threatening Sir Henry. I pretended nothing had happened at the beginning. However, that swindler soon realized something wrong. Seeing my apprehensive face, he grasped that I knew he was planning another crime. When I tried to coax him from torturing Sir Henry further, he became agitated and furious. We started shouting and screeching at each other. He then hit me with his muscular arms and I found myself in a frenzy of anger and kicked him back. Suddenly, he snapped the bed sheets next to us and wrapped me all over. He was so forceful that I was promptly tied up against a wooden post in the center of the room. The knots were so tight that I could hardly breathe. Had I known that I would be assaulted in this prison, I would not have risked my life to fight with him. I wouldn’t forgive his cruelty. I was in great pain and blood was over my bruised arms. They were clear marks of violence. It was so painful and distressing. I was in a lonely marathon of agony. I felt so hopeless and helpless. I was motionless in a room with tears stinging my eyes.  Gradually, I heard my stomach echoed in the silence. I hadn’t eaten for a long time. How long had I been cooped up? I almost fainted when I heard a creak at my locked desert. I thought it was my cruel husband coming to torture me further again. It wasn’t! I wanted to shout but it turned out a faint sound because I was so weak at that time A short while later, I heard a bang and the door swung open. Holmes, Watson and Lestrade came in with guns in their hands. What a relief! I was rescued! All three of them were very surprised at the sight of me. They couldn’t identify me at first as I was wrapped round completely. They untied me. Thanks god for that! I felt much more comfortable. They were the brightness in the dark.  Full of grief and shame, I soon sank to the floor. They put me in the old oak chair and I managed to open my eyes again. I didn’t care whether my wicked husband would harm me further. I couldn’t keep the secret anymore. Therefore, I told them where he had kept the hound and the whole truth. I also asked about Sir Henry. To my relief, Sir Henry was safe and the hound was dead. I found myself crying with happiness. Now I am relieved and feel soothed after the salvage. However, I worry about what will happen to me next? I have been neglected and live a life of deceit. I don’t want to live in fear, suspicion and possible attack again, worrying my husband would plan another crime? Does my husband really love me? Why do we have to pretend to be brothers and sisters? Why was I being used to attract Sir Henry? I was torn between saving Sir Henry and hating my husband. What should I do?  I worry about my future? I prayed and prayed. I am lonely and hopeless in the world. Will god shed light on me?
